Sweet Home Alabama
Hey!!
Sorry that I haven't posted in a while, but I left my power cord to my laptop in St. Augustine!! I did some shopping at a local flea market near where I've been staying when I got here in the great state of Alabama, and I found a new cord that works just as good as the old one did. I also got a new camera so I could take a picture of the power cord and show it to you, here it is:
But, anyways, I arrived here in Alabama on Friday, and the first stop I made in this great state was a place called Talladega Motor Speedway. If you've never heard of this place, then you're crazy. I went through some of the gates and passed by security on Saturday to see just what everybody was pushing and shoving each other inside for. Apparently, there's guys that actually race cars for a living! Who knew? But, I've never experienced anything like it before. It was quite loud I gotta say, and there were a few people acting strange. One of the funny things was, was that I saw grown men drinking out of baby bottles! I'm not sure though, I think that they were made of glass so that they'd possibly stand a chance a looking grown up while drinking from a childs bottle.
But, anyway, I got a few pictures that I wanted to show you while I was there, so here's a few:
sorry about your car there tony! maybe better luck next time!!
I don't know why, but people seem to go crazy when I do stuff like this!
here's a picture of a guy named Jeff Gordon. I snapped this picture before the race even started.
And here's a great one; This was actually on tv in fact. Here's the winner, Kyle Busch. If you look really closely, you can see me out on the track eating some cat food. hey, all I can say is that whoever left the cat food there made the mistake, not me.
But, seriously, I had a great time at the Talledega Motor Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. I gotta shed a little love on my boy Kyle Busch though. He did a pretty good job.
Okay, so, ya know that I can't do a blog entry without some history. I did some research whenever I got my new power cord and looked up a few places. One of these places is what I called "The really big building", mainly because I didn't know what the whole deal with it was. I'm sure it serves some historical reference. Does anyone know?? Here's a picture of it though:
Look familiar?? Okay, well, another thing I got to looking into was some of the stuff that happened around the time of the Civil War in Alabama. Check this out:
From my studies, I've come to find out that the last major battle of the Civil War, called the Battle of Columbus, was fought here in Alabama. One thing I learned though is that Columbus is actually a place in Georgia, but some of the fortifications were build just along a somewhat circular ridge on Alabama's side of the chattahoochee River. And, this battle actually took place on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1865. But when ya really get to looking into it, its really cool stuff. But here's a few other snapshots I got around Alabama:
I also looked up just a few side notes about Alabama. Here's a few:
1. Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama
2. its population in 1994 was 4,219,000 (yeh, I know,...who cares??)
3. it was the 22nd state to be admitted to the Union
4. Nicknamed "The heart of Dixie"
But, yeh, that's basically been my entire trip to Alabama this passed week. I'll try my best to post something wheneve I arrive at my next stop. Be sure to email me or post a comment so I can hear from you. Wherever you think I should go, hit me with an email and tell me about it! But, for now, I gotta get going! I'll see ya later!!
much love from a cat who's been to 3 states so far,

My next stop
First of all I want to thank all of you guys for the comments and for visiting my blog. Although, I haven't gotten any emails from anyone! here's the thing, if there's any place that you think that I should visit, send me some pictures and information about the place, and I'll check it out and probably visit that place.
But, at any rate, thanks again for visiting. I can't believe how many people visited on Thursday. I think it was around maybe 50 or maybe a little more than that.
But, I decided in Charleston where I wanted to make my next stop--Florida.
Okay, so you might ask, "how in the world could a cat get from Charleston, SC all the way to Florida in a matter of 4 days??". I have your answer. I caught a 7am flight on friday non-stop to St. Augustine, FL. Here's a picture of me on the plane:
And here's a picture of me when I got off the plane:
All I can say is that I don't know if I really want to take a plane anymore. We had some turbulance, so I guess that's what made me flip my lid. But, when I got to St. Augustine beach, FL, I decided to spend some time there and see just what this place had to offer. So here's some of the pictures I got of the beach.
And here's the pool:
This was such a great place. The pool, the ocean, everything seemed perfect about it. One downfall I would say though, would probably be the people sharing the hotel room next to yours. I mean, seriously, here I am, sitting out on my porch trying to relax by watching the waves, and all of the sudden, I see a fishing line fly off the porch next to mine. Some guy decided he didn't want to walk all the way down to the beach to try to catch some fish, so instead, this dude casts out his fishing line from his porch. I gotta say, though, I was impressed. He actually got the line out as far as the water. In fact, he even caught a good looking fish too. Funny thing was, some guy on the beach saw the fish lying on the beach while my neighbor was trying to reel it in, and the dude on the beach stole the fish. Another funny thing--about an hour later another guy I was neighbors with fried himself a fish.
I, however, didn't take a swim in the ocean or the pool. I decided to lay in the sunlight and try to get a tan, and watch crazy people from balconies cast out fishing lines. But, anyways, one of the places that I heard of here in St. Augustine was the "Fountain of Youth".
okay, here's today's history lesson. a dude name Ponce De Leon actually discovered this place (St. Augustine) in 1513, I believe. He was in search for a "Fountain of Youth" that would supposedly restore your youth. Now, when I went to this place, I actually got to drink water from this "Fountain of Youth". Here's me taking a sip of the water:
Ha ha!! just kidding! I couldn't get a picture because my batteries ran dead shortly after I arrived at the "Fountain of Youth". I just thought I'd throw that one in there just to be funny. But, I don't think that the fountain's water really restored my youth. In fact, it tasted somewhat of eggs, and it actually made me feel a little sick.
But, anyways, I figured I'd see a little more of what Florida had to offer by visiting Disney World in Orlando. And it was GREAT. The Dumbo ride had to be my favorite. But here's a few pictures I got while I was there:
I would've gotten a picture with Mickey, but I didn't know if a mouse would really care to hang out with a cat like me. But I met up with him on the Dumbo ride, and I've come to find out that he's really a nice guy. He told me that the reason why he was off riding rides was because he liked to escape sometimes, and that was his way of doing so. Plus, Minney Mouse was quite angry at him for not picking up the milk when he went to the store.
Another one of those pictures was of Disney World at night. Its funny how a cat like me can sneak into places long after they're closed for the day!
Oh, yeah, and there's one of the Train. I loved that thing. I'm in that picture in fact, but the stupid guy I got to take the picture apparently doesn't know how to zoom in on a snapshot.
But I got a really nice hotel room at the Hilton Resort. Here's what my room looked like:
I gotta say, I slept very good on that bed. In fact, I had been told that Tom Cruise had actually been in that same room when he came last year. But I did a little bit of shopping in Orlando and I wanted to show you something I found:
I was deeply offended when I saw this postcard. Is there something wrong with fat cats?? huh??? but, I tried to imitate this cat when I got back to the hotel, so tell me if I look any bit similar:
Maybe a small resemblance. But, anyway, I gotta say, the entire trip has been fun so far. I figure I'll spend another day or two here before I depart for my next trip.
But, seriously, keep those emails and comments coming!! Where should I make my next stop?? Any place that you think is interesting, just email me about it and send me a few pictures if you want. I would really appreciate it. But for now, me and Mickey Mouse are gonna spend the rest of the day on the Dumbo ride, so I had better get going.
So I'll see ya soon!!!

My First Trip
Well, let me start by telling you who I am, and a little bit about me. Okay, my name is Doug and I happen to be a cat. A few weeks ago I decided that life was a little boring where I was, so I decided to get out and see just what the world is like. I figured that I shouldn’t let my family get worried about me so I decided to put this whole blog together so they can see just what I’m up to. And, another great thing is that I can show you guys what I’m up to and teach you about some of the places I’ll be going through.
Okay, so anyway, I suppose we’ll go ahead and get started. So, I decided that since I’m from
All I can say is that it was a really long walk. But I caught a few bus rides so, I wasn’t as tired as I could’ve been. I’d say it took about 3 days to get to Charleston from where my house is
But, anyway, let me go ahead and show you some photos of the beach.
I decided I needed to relax a little bit when I got here so I took a trip to the beach close to where I was staying. The seagull in the second photo’s name happens to be Fred. I met him at the beach and he got to telling me about some of the cool places in
One place he told me about was the “Old Jail”, as it is now called. So, I decided to make my way down to this “Old Jail” to see what it was really like. So, here’s a picture of me near the “Old Jail”.
As you can tell, this was at one time a huge jail house. So, before I made my way over to this jail house, I decided to do some research on it. This building was actually built in 1802 and it served as a jail house until 1939. if you can’t tell from the picture, this thing is 4 stories high with a octagonal tower behind it. And in 1886 damage was done to the tower when an earthquake occurred. But now, this thing just serves as a tourist site. I would have taken a tour through it, but, well, I figured they wouldn’t let a cat in
Okay, so another thing that Fred told me about was a place called
As you might have guessed,
The last place he told me about was a place called “The Battery”, or some might call it “Battery Park”. This “Battery” is located around downtown
But anyway, from my research I learned that there is a great deal of statues and monuments in this park. When I got there, I found an old canon that was used as a statue I guess, so I decided to climb on it for a quick snapshot. Unfortunately, I was chased away by some person’s angry dog.
I also learned that “The Battery” became a public park in 1837, and it was also used to store artillery at the time of the Civil War. This park also has some of the most luxurious houses in Charleston. From what I saw, there’s plenty to see at “The Battery”
So, that pretty much sums up my entire trip to Charleston, South Carolina. A few things that I learned would be: Charleston has some pretty neat attractions. I really liked Fort Sumter the most. There’s a lot of history built up within those walls that I really enjoyed learning about. The other thing I learned is that, no matter what, you can always trust a seagull. Especially if his name is Fred.
But, I’d defiantly give Charleston a “Two paws up”. But, for now I need to get going to my next location.
So, I’ll see ya then.
Until then, keep it real
-Doug
