Well, let me start by telling you who I am, and a little bit about me. Okay, my name is Doug and I happen to be a cat. A few weeks ago I decided that life was a little boring where I was, so I decided to get out and see just what the world is like. I figured that I shouldn’t let my family get worried about me so I decided to put this whole blog together so they can see just what I’m up to. And, another great thing is that I can show you guys what I’m up to and teach you about some of the places I’ll be going through.
Okay, so anyway, I suppose we’ll go ahead and get started. So, I decided that since I’m from
All I can say is that it was a really long walk. But I caught a few bus rides so, I wasn’t as tired as I could’ve been. I’d say it took about 3 days to get to Charleston from where my house is
But, anyway, let me go ahead and show you some photos of the beach.
I decided I needed to relax a little bit when I got here so I took a trip to the beach close to where I was staying. The seagull in the second photo’s name happens to be Fred. I met him at the beach and he got to telling me about some of the cool places in
One place he told me about was the “Old Jail”, as it is now called. So, I decided to make my way down to this “Old Jail” to see what it was really like. So, here’s a picture of me near the “Old Jail”.
As you can tell, this was at one time a huge jail house. So, before I made my way over to this jail house, I decided to do some research on it. This building was actually built in 1802 and it served as a jail house until 1939. if you can’t tell from the picture, this thing is 4 stories high with a octagonal tower behind it. And in 1886 damage was done to the tower when an earthquake occurred. But now, this thing just serves as a tourist site. I would have taken a tour through it, but, well, I figured they wouldn’t let a cat in
Okay, so another thing that Fred told me about was a place called
As you might have guessed,
The last place he told me about was a place called “The Battery”, or some might call it “Battery Park”. This “Battery” is located around downtown
But anyway, from my research I learned that there is a great deal of statues and monuments in this park. When I got there, I found an old canon that was used as a statue I guess, so I decided to climb on it for a quick snapshot. Unfortunately, I was chased away by some person’s angry dog.
I also learned that “The Battery” became a public park in 1837, and it was also used to store artillery at the time of the Civil War. This park also has some of the most luxurious houses in Charleston. From what I saw, there’s plenty to see at “The Battery”
So, that pretty much sums up my entire trip to Charleston, South Carolina. A few things that I learned would be: Charleston has some pretty neat attractions. I really liked Fort Sumter the most. There’s a lot of history built up within those walls that I really enjoyed learning about. The other thing I learned is that, no matter what, you can always trust a seagull. Especially if his name is Fred.
But, I’d defiantly give Charleston a “Two paws up”. But, for now I need to get going to my next location.
So, I’ll see ya then.
Until then, keep it real
-Doug
